Firefighter Ministries is committed to providing spiritual, mental, and physical care to emergency service workers and their families.  Stress levels and burnout are high in this field.  That is why we strive to provide these individuals with a vast amount of resources, information, education, and assistance so that they may live the highest quality of life possible as they continue to serve their communities.

Firefighter Ministries is completely staffed by volunteers.  Our highly trained and experienced volunteer staff includes, counselors, therapists, ministers, chaplains, CISD professionals, firefighters, medical personnel, police officers, bereavement specialists, & attorneys.  A majority of these individuals have personal experience working in the emergency services.

We work with individuals based on their needs, regardless of their financial status, race, sex, or religion.  All of our services are free.

Our programs and ministries are focused on the unique needs of the emergency services worker.  With many of our staff members experienced in the field, we are able to provide unique services by people who know what it's like to be in their "shoes".

Support services and resources for injured emergency workers are available through our Phoenix Project.  In Texas, we provide on site services and care when an LODD occurs.  This program runs in conjunction with the State Fire Marshal's Office and the State Firemen's and Fire Marshal's Assocation.

Our services are covered by grants, donations, and fundraising.

Charity Care

Emergency service workers that have been injured on the job come to us having exhausted their resources or insurance benefits trying to overcome their injury, leaving them financially stressed.  Sometimes the injured worker is a volunteer who's department does not have insurance to cover medical care.  By the time those individuals seek our care, they have become financially drained and are unable to pay many or sometimes, all of their bills.

Family members that have lost a loved one in the line of duty, are sometimes also put into the situation of being financially strained.  Insurance, donated funds, and pensions run out.  Sometimes those don't even exist because a department is either too small or they too have financial hardships and are unable to care for the family.

Departments suffer financial blows as well.  Fire Departments have ironically fallen victim to fires and have lost all of their equipment.  Earthquakes, tornadoes, and floods also can wipe out a whole department.  When that department is minimally funded, it can be a struggle just to rebuild.  Towns have been known to have to utilize other town fire departments because theirs has been destroyed.

The Phoenix Fund cares for all of these financial needs.  As a nonprofit organization, donations from corporations, foundations, departments, civic and trade associations are vital to maintaining the Phoenix Fund and Firefighter Ministries to ensure these individuals and departments receive the care that they deserve.

Caring For Their Emotional and Spiritual Needs

Veterans of the emergency services have been their, active workers live it, families see it...the extreme stress levels brought on by the 'hurry up and wait' atmosphere, traumatic scenes, near death or injury occurrences, and lack of sleep.  This equation often leads to substance abuse, divorce, and deep emotional trauma.

Firefighter Ministries revolves around the emotional and spiritual care of emergency workers.  Our goal is to provide education, outreach programs, online and hard copy resources, counseling support, and spiritual advisement.

When an individual is educated on the reasons of why they become stressed, they can catch symptoms faster and in turn, get the help they need faster.  This prevents burnout, deeply rooted psychological problems, and sometimes suicide.

Heart Ministries, The Chapel, our Corps of Chaplains, Women's Ministries, and Family Ministries all provide specialized emotional and spiritual care for the emergency worker.

Our Resource Center and Care Kit's also provide help by postal mailing brochures, pamphlets, books, and booklets on many different issues.

These programs are also dependent on donations.
